Bees at Work

Questions

Question: What kind of kosher certification do you have?

Answer: We have Mehadrin parve kosher certification (Kosher for Passover) supervised by Rabbi Reuven Uziel, the Regional Rabbi of Northern Samaria. Our honey products are kosher-certified by Rabbi Uziel, though not under Mehadrin.

Question: Do you feed your bees sugar water?

Answer: We do not feed our bees sugar water at all. We have lab tests from Intertek, one of the world’s top laboratories for honey quality testing, confirming this (the test results are available under the Certificates and Approvals section). We make sure the bees have enough honey to sustain the hive naturally.

Question: Is your honey heated?

Answer: Our honey is not heated at all. During colder months, most of it naturally crystallizes. Only fresh honey may initially remain liquid, but it will also crystallize over time.

Question: Where is your apiary located?

Answer: Our apiary is located in Harmesh, House No. 4 (Paradise Family Farm on Waze). We would be delighted to have you visit.

Question: What does honey from avocado flowers, eucalyptus, citrus, or cotton mean?

Answer: Our hives are placed in specific agricultural or flowering areas. For example, hives placed in avocado orchards collect nectar from avocado tree blossoms, resulting in avocado flower honey. This approach also applies to citrus groves and eucalyptus woodlands. When we can’t identify a specific floral source, we label it as “wildflower honey” because it may contain nectar from a variety of flowers.

Question: How can you tell if honey is real and pure?

Answer: The only reliable way to determine this is through testing by a certified laboratory.

Question: Does honey have an expiration date?

Answer: Honey does not expire. When stored correctly (in a cool, shaded place, without reusing the same spoon or introducing liquids into the jar), it can last indefinitely without spoiling.

• An expiration date is listed on the jar in accordance with Ministry of Health regulations.

Question: Should honey crystallize, and should it be returned to a liquid state?

Answer: Honey crystallization is a natural process and a sign of high-quality honey. We do not recommend heating it to return it to a liquid state.

Question: Do you give your bees antibiotics?

Answer: No, we do not use antibiotics.
